Tina Modotti
"Campesinos"
by Tina Modotti
Picking a Photographer out of that huge list was not easy! There were a couple of them that I really liked, but Tina Modotti was my favorite.
One thing that stood out to me was her use of shape and repetition in her photos. The photo that I picked out of hers (Campesinos) is a perfect example of both. When you first look at all the hats, it takes you a second to realize what you are looking at.
Other elements that can be found in her photography are line and balance. Many of her photos are very simple compositions where less tends to be more. Line plays a big role with creating her symmetrical compositions. Some of her subjects are very simple day to day objects, but some of her different angles make these normal things appear much different from what they really are.
I have never heard of Tina Modotti until now, but her style is exactly the kind of photography that I want to learn how to produce.
